A Short History of the Rough Collie
From the misty hills of Scotland to the world's most beloved family dog.
The Rough Collie began as a hard-working herding dog in the Scottish Highlands and northern England, prized for its intelligence, gentleness and tireless devotion to the flock. Queen Victoria fell in love with the breed in the 1860s, bringing Collies into royal favour and sparking their rise in popularity. Careful breeding refined the elegant coat, the graceful 'lean' head and the soft, expressive eyes we know today. By the 20th century the Collie had become a symbol of loyalty and homecoming — a gentle guardian equally at home on a working farm or curled by the fire.
